Head Blogger in Charge

Welcome!  Taking Pills n’ Paying Bills started off years ago as a therapeutic blog. I was just diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE or Lupus) and was left unsure, afraid and alone. Writing and sharing my experiences with others gave me a sense of purpose and strength.

Over time, I stopped writing.  My life had changed.  I have a total of 6 autoimmune diseases and two related medical conditions that require monitoring and maintenance.  During a 7-year period after my diagnosis, I faced many life-threatening issues.  The pressure and anxiety of balancing life and work became unbearable...the financial strain was overwhelming.

Navigating life with one chronic illness, let alone several, is challenging to say the very least.  It is my hope that chronicling my thoughts, experiences and perspective will provide encouragement and awareness for an often misunderstood condition.

My style is a mix of rabble rousing when indignant, humor when in despair and journalist when discriminating information. I encourage you to learn more about lupus and find out how you can support lupus advocacy and awareness.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the immune system creates auto-antibodies against healthy cells and organs. It can attack anywhere in the body. Its symptoms and manifestations are as varied as its patients. This disease has no cure, though some can be healed and go into remission.
